Town of Carrot River seeks Public Works and Utility Foreman

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Work as a part of the Public Works and Community Development teams of the Town of Carrot River with the implementation of policies and programs of the Town
  • General labour duties (ie light equipment operator, equipment and property maintenance, identifying and assisting with repairs of equipment and facilities)
  • Carry out all duties required in the operation of the Public Works and Utilities Department
  • General supervision and training (when required)
  • Supervise and participate in the maintenance of all municipal infrastructure
  • Plan work and project schedules and coordinate contractors as required
  • Supervise and participate in the daily operation and maintenance of wells, water supply lines, water treatment plants, reservoirs, sewage lift stations, and to keep adequate records of said operations
  • Supervise and participate, as required, in the installation of all new or replacement infrastructure
  • Responsible for the upkeep and condition of the Town shop and yard
  • Supervise and participate in all vehicle maintenance/repairs and keep adequate records
  • Order and maintain sufficient stock materials for all daily operation, maintenance and repairs within the public works and utilities department
  • Provide input for the preparation of the annual budget for the public works and utilities department
  • Enter and search for Dangerous Animals
  • In conjunction with the administrator, inspect, remedy or enforce any Bylaw or the Municipalities Act,depending on Council’s desired process to be applied to the enforcement of the Municipal Law


The Ideal Candidate will demonstrate:

  • Completion of Grade 12, GED 12 or equivalent from a recognized educational institution
  • Class 5 Driver’s License
  • At least 1 year experience working in a team setting
  • Experience operating light to heavy duty equipment and certifications attesting qualifications is preferred but not required
  • Willingness to relocate to within 15 minutes radius of the Town of Carrot River within 1 year of attaining position
  • Valid accreditation in some or all of the following prescribed disciplines is optimal:
    • Water Treatment – Level 2
    • Water Distribution – Level 2
    • Waste Water Treatment – Level 1
    • Waste Water Collection – Level 1

The position is Permanent Full Time which translates to 40 hours per week. The successful applicant will begin on or about September 1st, 2022 and will report to the Town Administrator.
