Roads to Reconciliation: Treaties in Saskatchewan
June 7, 2022 - 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
online
The Government of Saskatchewan and the Office of the Treaty Commissioner are coordinating official Treaty boundary signage in the province. When the new signs are installed, Saskatchewan will become the first province in Canada to mark Treaty boundaries along major provincial highways. On June 7 at 10:00 a.m., join SUMA for the webinar Roads to Reconciliation: Treaties in Saskatchewan to learn about the values and limitations of Treaties, and how they can support reconciliation efforts. Gary LaPlante, a Plains Cree-speaking member of Moosomin First Nation of Treaty 6 and advocate on reconciliation and restorative justice, will discuss the link between the Treaties and reconciliation, as well as the value of working together to address issues faced by communities across Saskatchewan.
Gary has performed political liaison work for and with numerous entities including Battlefords Tribal Council, the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, Moosomin First Nation, the Assembly of First Nations, the Liberal Party of Canada, the Government of Canada, and Stoney Knoll First Nation.
