Town of Tisdale Seeking a Director of Public Works and Utilities
The Town of Tisdale is seeking an experienced, progressive, and solutions-focused leader to join our senior leadership team as Director of Public Works & Utilities.
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director is responsible for the planning, operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of the Town's Public Works, Transportation, Water and Wastewater Utilities, and Regional Landfill operations. This position provides strategic leadership while ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of essential municipal services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise the Public Works, Utilities, and Regional Landfill departments.
- Plan and prioritize daily operations, maintenance, and capital projects.
- Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee roads, drainage, sidewalks, snow removal, municipal infrastructure, and equipment.
- Manage the Town's water treatment, distribution, wastewater collection, lagoon, and utility systems while ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Oversee Regional Landfill operations in accordance with provincial legislation and environmental standards.
- Coordinate contractors, consultants, and infrastructure projects.
- Maintain infrastructure records, asset management plans, and long-term capital planning.
- Promote a strong culture of workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and performance management to department staff.
- Respond to emergencies on municipal infrastructure.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Public Works, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Municipal Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible municipal public works experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Strong knowledge of municipal infrastructure, water and wastewater systems, transportation, and landfill operations.
- Experience managing staff, budgets, contractors, and capital projects.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Certifications
- Level II Water Treatment and Water Distribution.
- Level I Wastewater Collection and Treatment.
- Ground Disturbance Certification.
- WHMIS and Occupational Health & Safety training.
- Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's Licence (Class 3 is considered an asset).
