New North Saskatchewan of Northern Communities Seeks Chief Executive Officer

The Ideal Candidate:

Strong applicants will demonstrate a strong passion for the north, its people, and its communities, showing a strong commitment to advocacy at all levels of government. A successful candidate will also have a proven track record of professionalism and leadership, having overseen organizations and practiced strong ?scal responsibility and a commitment to sustainable ?nancial management. Familiarity with the north, its unique challenges, and its distinct culture is strongly preferred.

General Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Advocacy

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to set and implement strategic priorities that support northern municipalities.
  • Collect data, conduct research and analyze socio-economic, ?nancial, and policy trends to guide municipal advocacy and program development.
  • Maintain awareness of provincial and federal funding opportunities to support organizational initiatives.
  • Represent and support advocacy for municipal interests with government ministries, agencies, Indigenous communities, and the private and nonpro?t sectors.

Community & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Strengthen relationships with municipal members, Indigenous communities, and industry partners.
  • Design and implement regional initiatives that enhance municipal capacity and services.
  • Conduct regular visits to municipalities to discuss local challenges, opportunities, and priorities.

Organizational Leadership & Governance

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Develop and execute a four-year grant writing plan to support ?nancial sustainability.
  • Recruit, mentor, and manage staff while fostering a positive and ethical workplace culture.
  • Monitor ?nancial performance, budget forecasts, and reporting metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with governance standards, bylaws, and relevant federal and provincial regulations.
  • Lead key meetings, including Board meetings, AGMs, training sessions, and community forums.


Quali?cations & Experience:

  • Degree in Business Management, Political Science, Economics, Public Relations, or a related ?eld preferred. OR combination of education and relevant experience in management positions.
  • Experience navigating organizational governance structures, working with a board of directors preferred
  • Deep understanding of nonpro?t governance and municipal structures within the Northern Administrative District (NAD).
  • Proven experience in grant writing and securing funding.
  • Strong appreciation for Indigenous cultures, languages, and traditions within Northern Saskatchewan.
  • Pro?ciency in technology and digital communication tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak Cree, Dene, or Michif is an asset.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be willing to travel to northern communities on a regular basis for meetings and other business with member communities.
  • The CEO will typically work in an office environment, with some activities requiring travel throughout the province.
  • Work hours will follow the standard work week but will often require work in the evenings or on weekends, as well as overtime hours to accommodate various meetings and other public events.

Compensation & Bene?ts

  • Competitive salary starting at $90,000.
  • Comprehensive bene?ts package through the SUMA Group Bene?ts Program, including health insurance.
  • Retirement contributions directly deposited into RRSP account.
