The Town of Shaunavon is seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as the Director of Wellness & Leisure (Recreation Programs). Position Overview: Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Wellness & Leisure will provide strategic leadership in planning, budgeting, program development, and facility management to promote community engagement and physical activity.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop annual departmental plans and budgets for municipal approval, ensuring programs are implemented within allocated resources and policy guidelines.
  2. Manage human resources for staff and volunteers, fostering a positive workplace culture that aligns with the Town’s standards for psychological and physical health and safety.
  3. Maintain communication with the Director of Parks, Recreation & Facilities regarding facility management and operational standards.
  4. Collaborate on policy and procedure development with staff and committees to ensure effective program delivery.
  5. Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of recreational programs in partnership with community groups and volunteers.
  6. Develop and execute public relations and marketing strategies, acting as the spokesperson for recreational services.
  7. Oversee financial management including budget preparation, accounts payable/receivable, and fund development through grant writing, donations, and sponsorships.
  8. Work closely with the Economic Development Officer to research and apply for grant opportunities that enhance recreational facilities and programs.
  9. Advocate for the expansion and enhancement of recreational facilities to stimulate economic benefits for Shaunavon.
  10. Collaborate with the Chief Administrative Officer to ensure council directives related to wellness and leisure are effectively carried out.
  11. Manage daily facility and equipment operations in compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
  12. Maintain relationships with key stakeholders, user groups, and relevant provincial and national organizations.
  13. Represent the recreation department at local, regional, provincial, and national levels as required.

Qualifications:

  • Solid knowledge of sports, recreation, and community development; a related post-secondary diploma or degree is an asset.
  • Proven experience in program development, leadership, and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to think strategically and translate goals into operational objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a politically sensitive environment.
  • Proficiency in managing public sector relationships and collaborating with local government.
  • Experience working with non-profit sectors and volunteer boards.
  • Excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications essential for office management and community calendar coordination.
  • Knowledge of grant programs and experience in proposal writing and project management.
  • Supervisory experience in a similar setting is preferred.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $75,000 annually, dependent on qualifications and experience.
