Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to re-institute the provincial Hazardous Household Waste Program.

Proper management of household hazardous waste is important. All consumers should consider selecting non-hazardous alternatives or reducing the amount of household hazardous materials they use. The recent three-year pilot program for household hazardous waste was helpful in understanding the nature and amount of the waste stream in the province. We are considering the need for a stewardship-based approach to the management of household hazardous waste. The establishment of the provincial MMRP and amendments to existing stewardship program plans is the focus of ministry work at present.
