REJECTED -- RCMP Policing Levy Exempting Villages
Year: 2016
Resolution
Whereas small urban communities are experiencing a reduction in their tax bases due to migration, centralization and an economic downturn; and
Whereas all communities are experiencing financial difficulty in maintaining and upgrading their infrastructure; and
Whereas all citizens, young and old, urban and rural, are entitled to basic protective services; and
Whereas Fine Revenue Sharing for small urban municipalities has not provided any support for most small communities; and
Whereas RCMP policing costs have risen to almost $50 per capita, making the service very expensive;
Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to negotiate a change in the policing costs to effect the provision of such services to villages be provided at no cost.
