REJECTED — Mandatory Fire Sprinklers
Year: 2017
Resolution
Whereas many SUMA member communities are reliant on volunteer fire protection; and
Whereas many of these volunteer fire departments cannot provide quick response times; and
Whereas mandatory installation of fire suppression sprinkler systems in all new residential single and semi-detached dwellings would greatly benefit these communities; and
Whereas sprinkler installation may lower fire insurance rates; and
Whereas these lower insurance rates allow home owners to financially recover the cost of a sprinkler system;
Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA lobby the Minister of Governmental Relations to amend The Uniform Building and Accessibility Standards Regulations to require the installation of fire suppression sprinkler systems in all new residential and commercial buildings in Saskatchewan.
