Northern Road Maintenance and Repair

Year: 2015

Resolution

Whereas individual northern roads often provide the sole means of connection for isolated northern communities; and Whereas industrial expansion in the north provides significant economic benefits to the provincial economy; and Whereas northern roads are generally maintained to a much lower standard than roads in southern Saskatchewan; and Whereas a collaborative Northern Highway Strategy has been developed, but never fully implemented by the province; and Whereas northern communities cannot benefit from programs such as the Municipal Roads for the Economy Program; Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA advocate for the provincial government to fully implement the Northern Highway Strategy and make the annual investments into northern highways necessary for year-to-year improvements to the northern highway system.
