Made in Saskatchewan Infrastructure Program

Year: 2009

Resolution

Therefore be it resolved that SUMA urge the Province of Saskatchewan to implement a long term infrastructure program for Saskatchewan’s urban municipalities.

Provincial Response

Response: At the SUMA Convention the Premier announced an economic booster of $500 Million worth of infrastructure dollars for the province. $100 Million of that was used to fund the Municipal Economic Enhancement Program (MEEP) MEEP was available to all municipalities on a per capita basis, and only required a very basic one-page form. In addition to MEEP, the province matched the federal acceleration of $31.6 Million in funding through Building Canada Fund-Communities Component. The Saskatchewan Infrastructure Growth Initiative (SIGI) supports infrastructure investment in lot development and related offsite infrastructure by providing interest rate subsidies on municipal borrowing. We understand the importance of municipal infrastructure to ensuring that Saskatchewan is ready for growth. We will continue to consult with the municipal sector about new infrastructure programs.
