Be it resolved that SUMA request that the Provincial Government increase R.C.M.P. funding to fill vacancies and for additional officers to be deployed in Saskatchewan.
Provincial Response
Keeping communities safe is a top priority of the provincial government. In 2005-2006, the Province of Saskatchewan provided funding for 18 new RCMP positions. In 2006-2007, funding will be provided for another 35 new RCMP positions. Consequently, in 2006-2007, the Province of Saskatchewan will be funding 920 RCMP positions - an increase of 53 positions over two years. This represents an increase of 165 positions over the 1999-2000 level of 755 - an increase of over 20%. To ensure a satisfactory level of police service is provided, communities are encouraged to work closely with their local RCMP detachment. This is best accomplished with regular meetings and setting of strategic goals between the RCMP and the community.
