SUMA Convention 2015 a Busy Four Days

Feb 10, 2015
Hundreds of delegates from towns, villages, cities, and northern municipalities across Saskatchewan gathered last week in Saskatoon for a whirlwind of excitement at SUMA’s 110th Annual Convention. Along with a rousing President’s Address from President Debra Button, there were many highlights:
  • The involvement of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ Acting Chief Kimberly Jonathan at the opening ceremonies. Chief Jonathon shared a message of inclusion, compassion, and understanding.
  • A resolution from the SUMA Board of Directors on revenue sharing received unanimous support from delegates, sending a strong message to the provincial government about the importance of this program to urban governments.
  • Effective February 4, Regina City Councillor Mike O’Donnell is the new Executive Member for Saskatoon and Regina.
  • SUMA’s CEO, Laurent Mougeot, received the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ International Awards of Excellence – he is one of only 10 recipients in the country.
  • The President’s Banquet and Awards ceremony dazzled attendees with a new format full of home-grown entertainment, including slam poetry from Saskatoon’s Isaac Bond and the vocal-centric stylings of FOGDOG.
  • The full provincial Cabinet attending Wednesday’s Bear Pit.
  • Attendance of Opposition Leader Cam Broten.
SUMA thanks all delegates for their attendance, and looks forward to building on the momentum of another exciting convention.
