Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness Week in Saskatchewan

May 10, 2016

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed May 8–14 Aquatic Invasive Species Awareness week, and SUMA is pleased to see this emphasis on the need for diligence on this issue.

Last month, SUMA sent a joint letter to Environment Minister, Herb Cox, alongside our sister associations, the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) and the Provincial Association of Resort Communities of Saskatchewan (PARCS), urging action on aquatic invasive species. Awareness, inspections, and decontamination are critical parts of protecting our water bodies and water-related infrastructure.

SUMA welcomes the Province's acknowledgement of this issue, and we look forward to working with our partners and the province on ensuring continued progress.
