In its 2018-19 Operational Plan, the Ministry of Environment committed to implementing a solid waste management strategy in collaboration with the solid waste advisory committee, partners, and stakeholders.
The Solid Waste Management Advisory Committee was established in the summer of 2018. The committee is tasked with leading development and implementation of a public consultation plan with a representative sample of relevant stakeholders to inform the direction of the strategy and identify potential changes to The Municipal Refuse Management Regulations (MRMR).
As part of the process, the advisory committee is engaging with a representative sample of municipalities, regional waste management authorities, private sector, and recycling organizations to gain their perspectives, feedback, and input. If your municipality would like to provide feedback through a written submission, contact Rachelle Holterman.
Feedback on red tape related to the Municipal Refuse Management Regulations is being collected through a survey. Take the survey.
The committee is looking to share recommendations with the Minister in March 2019.
