Increasing Funding for Public Transit

Resolution
Be it resolved that SUMA urge the Provincial Government, beginning in the 2000-01 budget year, to recognize the benefits of adequately funded public transportation systems by: a) Reinstating operational and capital funding assistance for the provision of public transportation in Saskatchewan municipalities; b) Eliminating, or reducing, the provincial component of existing fuel taxes, for fuels used by municipalities for public transportation purposes; and c) Eliminating or reducing the Provincial Sales Tax on public transportation equipment purchases by municipalities.
