Removal of Health Care Capital Levy
Year: 2011
Resolution
Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA lobby the Government of Saskatchewan to fund 100% the cost of capital health projects.
Provincial Response
Our government continues to follow through on our promise to strength our health care system. I was pleased to announce $133.1 million in health infrastructure and access improvements to make the system safer and more secure for patients and health providers. We have listened to the concerns raised with respect to the funding formula for capital projects and the financial impact it has had on some communities. Communities asked for a new funding formula, and we are delivering it. We have announced a change in the capital funding formula for regional health facility construction projects to 80 per cent provincial funding and 20 per cent local funding. An 80-20 split lowers financial barriers to the revitalization of health facilities in towns and cities across Saskatchewan. This funding will allow health regions to proceed with important planning, construction, building repairs, and equipment upgrades.
