Recruitment of Medical Technicians

Year: 2011

Resolution

Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA request that the Government of Saskatchewan add the recruitment of Medical Technicians to the Mandate of the Physician Recruitment Agency.

Provincial Response

Response: There are many considerations when making decisions regarding the location of CT and/or ultrasound services. Patient and exam volumes for any medical imaging equipment such as CT have a direct impact on patient safety, cost of operation, as well as recruitment and retention of professional personnel. The Physician Recruitment Agency is mandated to work with communities and health regions to recruit and retain physicians to Saskatchewan. The Physician Recruitment Agency acts as a one-stop point of contact for physicians seeking to practice in Saskatchewan and it also co-ordinates the recruitment of physicians with health regions and communities across the province. Heath Careers in Sask is mandated to provide a centralized and coordinated recruitment service in regional health authorities and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency to assist them in attracting health workforce employees, with an emphasis on challenging locations and scarce health workforce employees. Health Careers in Sask launched a website www.healthcareersinsask.ca in September 2006 to promote Saskatchewan to health workforce employees in the province, across Canada, and around the world. The website includes a job board where regions can post their vacancies. Health Careers in Sask also helps coordinate attendance at careers fairs within Saskatchewan across Canada to ensure Saskatchewan has a presence with health science students. The Ministry of Advanced Education, Employment and Immigration has a number of inter-provincial agreements with other provinces where Saskatchewan purchases education seats exclusively for qualified Saskatchewan students. These agreements are for programs not currently offered in Saskatchewan and include: Sonography 4 seats per year and MRI 2 seats every other year The most important person in the health care system is the person the system serves-the patient.
