Staggering the Terms of Office for Council Members
Year: 1999
Resolution
Be it resolved that SUMA request the Provincial Government to amend the Local Government Election Act to adjust the term of office for urban municipal council members such that: A. elections would take place every two years, with one half of the council positions open in each election (and the mayor’s position every other election), so all council members would serve four-year terms of office. B. elections would take place each year, with one half of the council positions open in each election (and the mayor’s position every other election), so all council members would serve two-year terms of office.
