Therefore be it resolved that the SUMA petition the Government to act quickly and recognize these situations through either a more specific amendment to the Highway Safety Act (2006) or a direction from the Minister of Highways to the Highway Traffic Board to acknowledge the need to grant the designation of “authorized emergency vehicle” to volunteer firefighters, first responders and EMTs responding to emergencies within our communities - following the application process currently referenced in the Highway Safety Act (2006).
