Increase Municipal Input Over Library Branches
Year: 2007
Resolution
Therefore be it resolved that SUMA request changes to the Provincial Libraries Act providing more municipal input and control over the operation of library branches.
Provincial Response
Response: According to the Pubic Libraries Act, 1996 the general management, control and operation of a regional library is vested in a regional library board. Regional library boards are composed of members appointed by each municipality within the boundaries of the region. The regional library board is responsible for establishing policy, approving the budget, reviewing and approving audited financial statements, establishing the annual municipal grant rates, and electing the chair and executive committee to carry out the day-to-day business of the board and the operation of the regional library.
