Providing Provincial Mobile Evacuation Service to Remove Freon

Resolution
Be it resolved that SUMA lobby the Provincial Government to provide mobile evacuation service to remove Freon from all discarded older appliances.
Provincial Response
Industry has established a program to recover and dispose of banned refrigerants. The program is operated through Refrigeration Management Canada (RMC). There are service technicians who provide a mobile service throughout the province. Any certified technician can provide the service of recovering refrigerants before the old appliance is discarded. The Halocarbon Control Regulations state that it is the responsibility of the owner of the equipment to ensure that the refrigerant is removed/recovered before the equipment is dismantled or discarded.
